"When expenses accumulated due to the needs of his family or unforeseen circumstances, he would need to go to Hebrew Free Loan for a small loan to make ends meet. Those loans were life savers."
In the 1930s, David Hart was an immigrant from Europe living in Montreal with his four young boys.
He delivered bread for a living and survived paycheck to paycheck. When expenses accumulated due to the needs of his family or unforeseen circumstances, he would need to go to Hebrew Free Loan for a small loan to make ends meet. He would always pay the loans back within a few weeks or months, but those loans were a lifesaver.
His four sons grew up to be successful businesspeople and members of the Montreal Jewish community. They now support HFL so that future generations can benefit as their father had so that we have a strong and flourishing community.
