"If it wouldn’t have been for the $300 loan from Hebrew Free Loans, we (my family) wouldn’t be here today. Every Jewish person, if he can help Hebrew Free Loans, that is a very good donation. They help a lot of people. I should know, I am here today because of them."
In 1939, with a $300 loan from HFLA, Samuel Dankoff had the foresight to bring his family to Canada from Poland and save them from the eventual horrors of the Holocaust.
Samuel’s children are still in Montreal and range in age from 97 to 101, and their extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren now numbers over 100.
Danny Dankoff recalls going to the HFLA office every week and paying $2 towards the loan so that it was paid off in three years.
Danny went on to become a successful furrier in Montreal and still lives independently, drives a car, and golfs!
Listen to Danny Dankoff tell his story in his own words.
